The Two Corpses
Doctor asked, “Could you understand those little hands?
Rajat confusingly said, “Doctor, I cannot differentiate between half-formed organs.”
Rajat and his wife were staring at the computer screen and couldn't describe what was exhibited to them. After waiting for an hour or so their excitement was no more than a goose egg. They desired to see their unborn child. At least they could have seen the heart of fetus living inside Avantika's body.
Rajat confusingly asked, “Doctor, Is it a girl or a boy?”
“A beautiful girl.” Doctor replied.
Rajat developed lines of worry on his forehead. He started forming blobs of sweat. The thought process of having one more girl child made him helpless again. He was stuck between the two ladies whom he loved unconditionally. He was feeling guilty. He shouldn't have taken Avantika to the hospital for an ultrasound. He would have to answer his mother as well. He was in love with Avantika. He has never even thought of living without her and his daughter. On the other hand, his mother made it very clear to him. Either it's a boy this time or Avantika will leave this house forever.
He insisted gynecologist to have a talk before they proceed.
“Can we please abort this child?” Rajat pleaded.
Doctor sternly said, “Why? Just because Avantika will be giving birth to a female child?”
The tears of guilt could be seen in Rajat's eye, “Doctor, Can we please abort this child?”
“No, you can't it's almost 5 months of pregnancy.”
Suddenly they hear the scream of people. They followed the crowd and what they saw was very unexpected for Rajat. The blood gushing out of a body lying on the floor. Rajat almost lost his senses. He saw Avantika's defunct body on the floor. She slipped off while coming to the doctor's chamber and was found dead on the spot with her unborn child. She was gone. She took her unborn daughter away from Rajat and his family. Rajat was running here and there for help but everyone prayed for Avantika and her unborn child to let them rest in peace.
