This is life
So this is life
This is what we wanted as chlidren
To be grown-up, free and chasing
Our own lives,
With school, work, bills, and bosses
Relationship, love, sex, and lies
No more mom to rescue or bear our crosses
Just haters, cops, and people who die.
This is the great life we've all been awaiting
Not a fairy tale written by dreamers of old
Or stories our parent once bought then sold
There's no charming prince
Dads, first love or deliverers
No kings from far away kingdoms to come
No horses, no rescues, no glass slipper fun
Only life in a ghetto world, scorched by the sun.
So this is life, a canopy of lies
Where we follow our oppressors' rule to survive
Here money is king for survival I'm told
And injustices rule in this wretched world
Dreams cost a fortune that most can't afford
So we chase the illusion till we fall to the ground
This is the life, to be grown up and free
Where my dreams are now of the child I'd once been...
This is life.
