That rainy day ☔
It was a bright sunny day in the first week of March when she woke up from her cosy morning sleep. She was peacefully asleep reminiscing the memories of the last evening. After she woke up the first thing she did was a smile. She was finally feeling liberated and happy, at the same time she was nervous about what was going to happen next. Finally, the man she was crazy about made her feel that she can be loved too. As she kept thinking about it, an unknown kind of fear crept her mind.
What if, she lost him forever. What if, the hands she held yesterday remained only as a memory. What if, someone takes away the place she felt safe and her own. These random thoughts encircled her mind as she started doing her daily chores. After all her chores were completed she finally headed for college.
She kept smiling at everyone and she was quite happy, at the same time scared too. He, on the other side, was busy at his office. She didn’t know what was going on his mind but she prayed he was feeling the same too. Since a kid, she believed in destiny and so just like all other things in her life she also left this to destiny and decided to give a hundred per cent.
Everything changed that day when there was a sudden arrival of the storm and she loved rainy days since childhood. She always found something romantic about it. Yes, it sounds cliche but she did love rain just like its shown in the movies. She was at the popular adda spot at her college called “ Macha “ by the students or the youngsters.
After the classes got over every student were noticed over there taking long puffs of a cigarette and sipping cold drinks. As usual, she and some of her friends went over there and repeated the same routine. Being a core engineering student she had no girlfriends and most of her friends were guys so she was basically friends with every other girl from other departments. She and a girl from computer science were busy talking and taking counters of a cigarette they took.
It was then when she gets his call.”Hello” she said over excited. He said” Dekhecho ki brishti hocche ? “ ( Can you see it’s raining heavily ). She could sense from his voice that he too was smiling just like her.
She suddenly realized she badly needs to see him and being a crazy woman she told “ Hain , ami dekhte pacchi kintu ami kichu janina tumi jadavpur thanar shamne asho, tomake astei hobe je korei hok.Ami toh kokhono kichu bolina.Aaj bollam.Asho.” ( Yes I know its raining but you come over near Jadavpur thana and I don’t know anything you have to come ) . And yeah, just like that she said it without waiting for his response. He said yes. She was on cloud no 9. She quickly finished the cigarette and headed for public transport. Never again before did a rain ride in Kolkata auto and bus felt so amazing. She was fully drenched but that least mattered.
All she was thinking is to see him once for she had her train to hometown at night on the same day. He kept calling her while she was on her way and kept saying “ 10 more minutes “.And after a half an hour journey she was finally there standing in front of him, smiling like an idiot.
They headed towards south city mall sometimes holding hands and coming close and sometimes just like that side by side. She couldn’t explain that feeling. She hoped he was feeling the same. They finally arrived south city mall and she had to say him a bye as her roommate was waiting for her inside the mall. She wanted to be with him as long as infinity but instead, she removed her fingers which were entangled in his. They both took a deep breath and promised to meet after a week.
She knew she was madly in love with him. But she didn’t know what he was feeling and still, she continued loving him
Well, perhaps that’s what love is all about.
