Absence of Protection
She swung the bag and pouted at the camera,
The make up enhancing her look,
After a satisfactory shoot, she left the place with a smile,
That smile was present all through her journey back home.
She rummaged in her bag for the keys,
Walked straight to the bathroom,
She looked at the mirror and peeled off the make up,
Little by little, her scars appeared.
Gone was the clear face, clear skin and confident smile,
She was battered and bruised, her eyes looked on hauntingly,
Memories stirred caused heavy tears to fall,
And she broke down, the confident girl disappeared.
A broken soul and a broken heart, she owned,
She walked out with an umbrella and a map,
One to protect herself from predators,
The other, habitual, was the map to the cemetery her protector and beloved lay.
