    Sandal Castle

    Sandal castle ruins,
No more than bits of stone,
    Time has made a reformation,
Of the stronghold all but gone.
    Still visitors walk within you,
    All friendly now, not foes,
    Whilst children imagine you alive,
As you were so long ago.
    Sandal castle ruins,
    Overlooking inland lakes,
    Raised aloft from marshy ground,
    Leaving history in your wake.
Still I wonder, would you tell,
    The secrets still within you,
Do ghosts of stories still live on,
In the dust that time blows through?
