She realized early on that many people were capable of being incredibly selfish, deceitful, and untrustworthy.
The potential damage, destruction and disappointment they could cause were simply too great a risk for her to bear.

The smell of hot pancakes filled her kitchen
Sizzling crisp bacon made her mouth water
Steamed milk and coffee seduced her senses
Fresh orange juice competed for her attention
She slowly licked the maple syrup off her lips
The orgy of tastes and textures had begun

He searched for words within his mind;
to capture how he felt inside.

his feelings that would not subside.

his stars; his universe; his world.

He realized then she was the one;
his destiny beneath the sun.

She wondered how long she had left
When they first said her end was soon nigh
No wonder her heart was bereft
For who wants to know when they'll die?
But she has since beaten their bets
And refused to give in to their claims
She'll continue for decades more yet
To put their prognosis to shame
