Is there any part of you
    That isn't poetry?
    The way your eyes shine
Gold and blue in the sun
    The way your laugh reaches
The furthest chamber of my heart
    The cut of your jawline
Severing every clever thought in two
    How we fit together
Nicer than any metaphor could offer
I didn't believe in soul mates
    Until I met you
And with every word I try to express..
But I'll fail again in any description.
Is there any part of you
    That isn't better than poetry?

If you knew how much I ache
    Would you stay?
If you knew the burning passion
The way I want to crawl
    Into your bones
And build a home beside your heart
    If you knew the depth
And the breadth of this sum
    How heartily and painfully
    I have loved you
If you could feel the weight
    Of all this emotion
    Could you bear it?
It is all I can do not to collapse
    Beneath it.
I fear I am too much
But I could say the same
About the affection you have stirred

    Abandoned gas stations
    Look good on you
I know you walk in the light
    But shadows suit you well
There's a little darkness in your past
A little chiaroscuro in your smile
    And it drives me wild
The way your black t shirts
    Hug your arms
In ways that I could only
    Dream of.

    What power is this
    That with a simple
    'I miss you'
    I become nothing
    But puddle and mush
    What power is this
    That I wish to keep
    Every tear from your eye
    Thoughts of self harm
    Fade with your arms
    Because I will never
Want to see your eyes filled
    With anything but love

    You are the embodiment
    Of answered prayer
    Of favor and providence
    And hope gone right
    And praise the Lord
    Praise the Lord
    For a beautiful thing
    And if tomorrow I wake
To find it all in fade
    I will still sing again
    And give thanks for today

    You are an old film
    With warm voices
    Quick wit
    And film noir
    Where the men
    Walk confidently
    And press their hats
    To their chest in respect
    And I will wear
    The stars you placed
    In my eyes
And meet you at the bridge
    In moonlight
    If you will catch me
As I fall into your arms

    I catch you
    Staring in my direction
    And I have never craved
    Any glance more
    In my entire life
    And I don't care
    I don't care
    About anything else
    And I doubt I will
    Ever again

I don't want to die anymore
Or at least I did not today
    I did not yesterday
    And maybe that's enough
    Even though it sits
In the back of my mind
    Like leftovers in my fridge
In the mess of my room

You said "show me a mirror."
    "You never looked at me,
Why should I return the favor?"
    You thanked me,
    Somehow taking it as answer
    And compliment
    I would rather shatter
    Than reflect your ignorance
    Again

    Tomorrow holds out
    Pale gowns in snow
    Play grounds in slow
    Motion
    But tonight holds tight
    Love poems in quiet
    Foxglove hum in riot
    Alone
    Why then do I waste
    Ink, vein, and salt
    Wink, brain, and want
    Unanswered
