    Who said Ravenclaws aren't Brave?

    There was that sparkle
    in her eyes,
    Which no one could explain.
Maybe because there were Nargles and Wackspurts involved.
Or was it just a bit of soulful kindness and bravery?

    "You are Luna Lovegood."
    They say.

Well, Luna could read a book upside down with ease.
Maybe I am that great. I just don't realize.

There was a time when I wasn't much good at magic. Nor with words. Come to think of it, I wasn't much good at anything. But then came the stars. And the spell. And a weirdly beautiful girl who shaped my life as no ordinary wizarding could.

My name is Neville Longbottom. And this is my story. It may not be the one you want to hear. It is not a children's tale. It is one that defies death, fate, and all dire prophecies, in order to breathe love upon the lips of two lonely, desperate souls. It is a story of desire unbound, the awakening of body and heart we all go through, yet I will try to tell it the best I can without blushing. Hopefully you will not look upon us as shameful, but with the open heart that many fail to set free in this age and time. We are not perfect you see. We are youth. We are wizards. We are as you.

I guess since we've never formally met, I should at the least tell you something of myself. I am nothing spectacular you see. Oh, in the history books of the wizarding world I am credited with a great deed that hastened the end of The Battle of Hogwarts, but if we talk about that now, we are only getting far ahead of ourselves. Let us instead look at the me that was in his fifth year at Hogwarts. I was sixteen then and not capable of anything spectacular. I was nearly non existent to most other students. A virtual no one, if you would. I had a few friends, the great Harry Potter among them, but I belonged to no real clique, was in no one's circle of influence. I was a lonely spiral of one.

There are several reasons for this. One being that among my fellow students I had low self esteem. Even more so towards magic. Even my grandmother, who raised me, felt I was pretty inept in the ways of wizarding. For another, no one among my peers, with the exception of Harry Potter, had personally been touched by death the way I was. It was with great surprise that I learned Luna Lovegood, a Hufflepuff student, had been touched by death as well. I didn't discover this until my fifth year in Hagrid's class when he introduced Vestrals to his teaching. But by then, Luna and I had already become a secret couple who couldn't keep hands to themselves. So I guess I'm getting ahead of myself once again. I never have been much the coherent conversationalist.

Neither was Luna for that matter, and maybe that's one of the reasons we clicked. I still remember the first time I kissed her. Well, if I'm to be honest, I should say it was she who kissed me. Sorry, but I just wasn't that courageous.

Herbology class had just ended. Everyone else had made their way back to the castle. I was standing outside the greenhouse, thinking I was alone. But I wasn't. I heard the door close behind me and at first I thought it was Professor Sprout. But it wasn't. Instead, it was Luna, who many called Looney. Behind her back, of course. The first thing I noticed about her that day was how her yellow hair was bright as the afternoon sun. The second thing were the huge green earmuffs on her head, made to look like goblin ears.

"I can't believe someone dumped the dragon dung compost out of the bin," she said. She looked down at her hands. For a moment, I hoped she had washed them. "Is there a smell?" she asked, thrusting her hand towards my face.

I backed away, startled, but I caught a whiff of her delicate palms. She smelled sweet and nice. Lavender. Not the student Lavender Brown, but the flower. I inhaled the scent of her hands, but then she withdrew them with "Ooh, I forgot my books." She dashed back into the greenhouse.

I stood there, the scent of her still in my nostrils. I was no longer thinking of the dragon dung, but of how sweet Luna smelled. She soon returned with her textbooks in tow. I could see the titles under her arm: Encyclopedia of Toadstools. Flesh Eating Trees Of The World. Taming Cornish Pixies For Fun and Profit.

"Can...I...uh...carry your books for you?" I asked.

"Yes," she agreed. I thought she'd smile abiut my offer, but she didn't. Her face was almost dazed, emotionless. But that was her normal look anyway. "Would you carry my dragon hide gloves too?" She plopped the pair down on top of the books I struggled to keep in my arms.

    "Uh...yeah, sure...I guess..ok," I stammered.

"You talk funny sometimes," she noted, and before I could respond, she added, "I think it's cute. Say my name."

    "Say my name," she repeated.

    She giggled. "Adorable."

Then she stood up on her tip toes and kissed my cheek.

"What was that for," I asked, like the complete idiot I was.

She looked at me, shrugged her shoulders, and replied, "You like me." It wasn't a question, but a bold statement, said as if fact.

"What?..No...I...What I mean..." I shut up. Any protest would seem rude, or an insult to her appearance, which I felt to be quite appealing, yet was too scared to say so.

"You can kiss my check, too," she said. "It's okay."

"Neville Longbottom," she said a little sternly, as if I were a child she was scolding.

And so...I kissed her cheek. Or at least it would have been her cheek if she hadn't turned her face to me at the last moment. My lips met hers, and while I was startled, it seemed to have been her plan all along. Despite my apparent surprise, it was nice. Very nice. Her lips were supple and moist and seemed to fit against mine perfectly. She tasted of bubblegum and Bernie Botts Fruit Drops. It felt like we were a pair of sugar mice dissolving in the rain. Nothing touched. Not hands, nor feet, or arms. Nothing but lips gently resting on top the other.

I realized my eyes were closed and I opened them to look into her own. But hers were closed too. Her head was tilted back, so that my kiss bore down on hers. All kinds of thoughts went through my head. Neville, are you crazy? What do you think you're doing? Do you realize...? Oh shut up me, I'm kissing Luna Lovegood. Suddenly her very name was like sweet music in my head. A beautiful chant that went, "Neville loves Luna, Luna loves Neville, if you don't like it, you can go to the devil." Well, maybe not exactly like that, but you get the idea about my swirling thoughts, don't you? Been in a similar situation yourself?

When our little first kiss ended, neither of us said a word for a moment. Words were certainly flying through my head, but I couldn't verbalize them. All I wanted was to kiss her again.

"Want to kiss me again tomorrow?"

Briefly I wondered if she'd read my mind, but then thought better of it. Instead I just nodded my head. "Um...sure...that would be...um, swell...."

I could have kicked myself over how stupid that sounded. Swell? What kind of answer was that? I had to be the biggest freaking nerd at Hogwarts.

She smiled, and it was the most genuine thing I ever saw. "Tomorrow then," she said, taking her books back, the dragon hide gloves still balanced on top. She started to walk away, and I began to question myself on whether it was customary to say goodbye at this point. She walked perhaps two dozen steps, and then dropped the books where she stood. She turned to look at me and her face was just as blank as always. Luna Lovegood staring off into space. Then she ran at me. If she'd been further away, I may have had time to bolt and run. But as it was she was nearly on top of me in no time. She flung her arms around my neck as her mouth collided with mine. Again I was surprised, but my mouth responded in kind, molding to the shape of her lips. I wanted to swing her around like they do in the movies, but I didn't. Instead I stood there losing my breath to her mouth, letting her kiss wash over me in pleasant waves. And when our lips briefly parted, she looked right in my eyes and whispered, "Forget tomorrow. I couldn't wait that long."

"You do something to me," she said. While most girls would have run their fingers nervously through their hair, Luna Lovegood just laughed. "It's like a backfired charm that makes me tingle all over."

"A stomach ache, maybe?" Neville asks, swallowing hard in his throat.

"I don't think so. It's like a vibration. A low hum. As if I'm shaking and the only thing to calm me would be if you touched me."

Neville raised an eyebrow. "Touched you?"

"Oh for Scalamander's sake, Longbottom," she cried out exasperated in her pleasant madness. Grabbing his hand she placed it against her breast, her other hand reaching for his face. Her lips, moist and supple, reacted passionately against his.

At first, Neville didn't know what to do. He'd never touched a girl before, much less imagined Luna could be so soft and exciting. He opened his mouth against hers, allowing her tongue to touch his, and then it affected him too. The hum she spoke of. The vibration. The tingle. It was passing from her to him, through the taste of her lips, the breathing swell of her skin.

At that point he wondered, who needs magic, potions, charms? This sensation beat them all and filled him with warmth and energy, flowing across his face and into the lower portions of his body. Taking a quick breath, he lifted Luna into his arms, and she wrapped her legs around him. I am the happiest boy alive, he thought. I feel so alive I could beat the whiskers right off he who should not be named. He closed his eyes. Surrendered to the sensations. And fell completely in love.

Harry and Ginny let Luna plan their wedding. During the ceremony, Harry looked out and saw a whole section of seats in the front row, apparently reserved for no one, along with a single owl perch. After the service, Harry asked her who was meant to sit there. "Oh, they did sit there, in a spiritual way I suppose." She pointed out the seats one by one and said, "Those two are for your mum and dad. That one is for Sirius. Those two are for Professor Lupin and Tonks. That one is for Mad Eye Moody. That one is for Fred. That one is for Professor Dumbledore. That one is for Professor Snape and the one on the end is for Dobby. And the perch is for Hedwig, because I know how much you loved her. I do hope they liked the wedding." Luna waved into seemingly empty space before prancing off into the crowd. As Harry stood there, he felt a tear roll down his cheek. He had never felt so touched before.

I want to be a Luna Lovegood.
I want to be able to show everyone the crazy and weird person that I am.
I want to show, that I can be a kind and beautiful soul alongside being wise.
I want to be calm in catastrophic situations and wish my words can have a calming effect on everyone.
I wish to able to enjoy myself without having any friends.
I wish to reason like her,
("A circle has no beginning," she said to the knocker.)
I wish to be able to announce my opinion without fearing.
I wish to be understanding and perceptive.
I wish to be a supportive, kind, quirky, accepting, loving, brave, wise, artistic individual
I wish to be an eccentric Ravenclaw like her.
I aspire to be like my fictional idol.

    Just as sane as Luna
    Sorted into Ravenclaw,
    friends she found at Gryffindor.
Wonderfully weird her words would sound,
yet they reflected as clues profound.
A guide to Order of Phoenix,
a girl subverting plans of Bellatrix.
Puzzled with shoes, even on date,
Luna never grieved at her unjust, harsh fate.
Instead, she turned up as the best consoling mate.
(Reference: Death of Sirius & Dobby)
    Besides critics flaming her frown,
happy soul would walk with the Quibbler upside-down.
All that mattered was loyalty at peak,
Unique Style! amusing every charm geek.

Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?'
'Hmm . . . What do you think, Harry?' said Luna, looking thoughtful.
'What? Isn’t there just a password?'
'Oh no, you’ve got to answer a question,' said Luna.
'What if you get it wrong?'
'Well, you have to wait for somebody who gets it right,' said Luna. 'That way you learn, you see?'
'Yeah . . . Trouble is, we can’t really afford to wait for anyone else, Luna.'
'No, I see what you mean,' said Luna seriously. 'Well then, I think the answer is that a circle has no beginning.'
'Well reasoned,' said the voice, and the door swung open.

"She is as sane as I am...."

She like them when they say,"You are abnormal.Thats why you don't have any friends."
In her mind she used to carry a thought,"So what....it means I'm different than you....or maybe I'm like Luna Lovegood. It means I will become friends with the Dumbledore's army...How cool it is...Isn't it....!!"
But it hurts when she hit like to other strange potterhead's random pictures in order to be friends with them.
