LETTER FROM A SOLDIER
Amidst the raining bullets as I lay,
Hit and shot, breaths hardly finding the way,
The heartbeats dying down, eyes about to close,
In that shivering cold, my shadow too froze.
My life, flashing past my eyes,
Since childhood, how the years went by,
A soldier as I am, way too young,
hardened and trained, I was one.
As these winds brush past against me,
I request it, to carry a letter with thee,
A letter not on paper, but on the winds,
My last few words, frozen and chilled.
Go and tell my father, I fought hard,
but I cannot come, for a walk in the park,
He will have to go alone now,
Have to live without me,I don't know how.
Tell my mother,I loved her a lot,
But for protecting my people, till last breath I fought,
I miss her lap, for my head to rest,
Singing me to sleep she does it the best.
My sister so sweet, the most beautiful one,
Tell her for rakhi,I won't be able to come,
Tell her I am sorry, I could not bring,
the doll, teddy and those colourful rings.
Go and remind my brother, what him I taught,
like he once said,as a hero I fought,
Tell him to study and smile and play,
Take care of everyone, frozen now as I lay.
Last words for my love, my beautiful dame,
Till the last my heart beat your name,
Forgive me today as I am leaving your hand,
We will meet again, some day at the other end!!!
