The people in power
Keep voicing their view
But what good are speeches
That aren’t followed through
We’ll help the people
We’ll feed the poor
We’ll build enough shelter
For one and for all
Their words reel us in
And we swallow the bait
But promises made
Always end in red tape
They watch the world pass
Leaning back in their chair
Assessing our problems
With such little care
But sadly most leaders
So quickly lose sight
The plight of the people
No longer their fight
And changes for better
That need to be done
Are pushed to the side
Amid claiming no funds
Their endless excuses
Are always the same
It’s never their fault
They all deflect blame
The wealthy it seems
Has the money to spend
As loopholes are found
And rules made to bend
The rich line their pockets
Exploiting the poor
From handshakes and deals
That go on behind doors
And nothing gets changed
Despite outrage and cries
Our voices aren’t heard
From their towers so high

Fellow survivors of a shipwreck
Shipwrecked on the same island
But on different ends, unseen
I thought I was the sole survivor
Similar thoughts crossed her mind.
We braved similar hardships
Fought against the same currents.
In the mainland we met,
Realisation dawned anew,
I've held her sweaty hand before,
Little did I know she was melting
Drowning in the same sea I was.
Feet firm on the ground, united we stand
Having braved the same storms
Sisters forged by the storm and sea.

इंसान
मंदिर"में दाना चुगकर चिड़ियां "मस्जिद" में पानी पीती हैं
मैंने सुना है "राधा" की चुनरी
कोई "सलमा"बेगम सीती हैं
एक "रफी" था महफिल महफिल "रघुपति राघव" गाता था
एक "प्रेमचंद" बच्चों को
"ईदगाह" सुनाता था
कभी "कन्हैया"की महिमा गाता
"रसखान" सुनाई देता है
औरों को दिखते होंगे "हिन्दू" और "मुसलमान"
मुझे तो हर शख्स के भीतर "इंसान"
दिखाई देता है...
क्योंकि...
ना हिंदू बुरा है ना मुसलमान बुरा है
जिसका किरदार बुरा है वो इन्सान बुरा है -
ह्रदय सम्राट
एक ऐसा ह्रदय सम्राट हो
जिसके जीवन में ललाट हो
स्वदेश से प्यार हो
मन में विज्ञान हो
भक्ति का प्रसार हो।
जाति हो न धर्म हो
ऐसे विस्व का निर्माण हो।
विस्व के कपाट पर
सौहार्द की ललाट हो
एक ऐसा ह्रदय सम्राट हो।

पिंजरा
सड़कें ज़रा शांत हैं आज और शहर बड़ा खामोश है
दूर उड़ते परिंदों में आज कुछ अलग सा ही जोश है
कुछ देर लगी पर मालूम हुआ ये सब कुदरत का खेल है
पिंजरों में रखते थे उन्नहें जो आज खुद पिंजरे में कैद हैं
मगर ये पिंजरा ज़रा अनोखा है
इन्होंने इसमें कुछ जज्बातों को भी रोका है
यहां कुछ पुराने चेहरों से आज फिर मुलाकात हुई है
मां की रोटी के स्वाद से उसकी ज़ुबान आज फिर वाकिफ हुई है
वो बचपन के अजीब से खेल आज कुछ बुज़ुर्ग हाथों ने खेला है
वो शाम की चाय और गपशप में आज लगा अलग सा मेला है
फिर पता चला बाज़ार में आज बस महामारी का बोल है
मगर इस अनोखा पिंजारे में नजाने क्यों खुशनुमा सा माहौल है
तो क्या हुआ सड़कें ज़रा शांत हैं आज और शहर बड़ा खामोश है
गौर से देखो हर पिंजरे में आज अलग सा ही जोश है
