Survivor
They write of victories
But never of survival
For victories are remarkable
But so are stories of endurance.
Wouldn't you read of him
Poor, dirty, miserable
Crampled, wilted
Torn and tattered?
It was too easy to give up
To shut the eyes and let go
Shed the leaves, dry the roots
Never would one know.
The wild storm, he resisted
It spared his eyes, not blind
And through the cracks he grew again
Craving the sunshine.
Steadily he rose to witness
The miracle of his own being
Owing to a simple pledge each day -
Choosing life o'er death every moment in his musing.
