Madness - Chapter 1
I ran as fast as I could,
But the wheels kept turning,
The clock kept ticking,
I was screwed.
It was a cool, dark night on hallows eve. Me and the boys went down to the lake to let loose and flirt with the ladies. We were all in highschool, anywhere from 15-19 years old. Of course, no party was complete without booze, regardless of our age. After a round or two, we decided it would be fun to play spin the bottle, with a twist. Not only would we spin a bottle, we would draw from a hat that gave us something to do. Something... naughty to do. My friend Jared, who was the mastermind behind all this, briefed us on the rules of the game and we proceeded to start. Some people were nervous as they had boyfriends and girlfriends. Me on the other hand, was very much single. I was excited to play at first, until I realized how many guys were in the circle. I did NOT want to make out with a dude.
After all the nervous babbling and giggling subsided, Jared started the game by presenting the hat, and spinning the bottle. It landed between Michelle, a Sophomore who was practically engaged to a football player, and the neighborhood royal jackass. Blake, the jackass, a title that he has proudly claimed for himself, started making googly eyes and immature gestures towards her. This made her visibly uncomfortable. Blake started to grab her and pull her in for the kiss when Jared stopped them suddenly. "Hold on now, did we forget about the magic hat?" Jared said. Blake scoffed and reached in, pulled a paper out, and laughed. "Is this some sort of sick joke?" Blake spat. He read the paper aloud: "Tell Michel, in detail, what you did last night.". Coincidence or not, that had everyone a little spooked, especially those who partook in the events of last night. I hadn't been there myself, but my buddy Hadred filled me in from what he had heard from his step bro. Apparently, they set all of Michelle's barn animals loose. She lived on a vacant lot on the edge of town that had about 30 acres of land. Her father had wanted to get into raising show horses so he had a large red barn built just for that reason. Unfortunately, about a month after, he died mysteriously of a heart attack. This was odd as he was a perfectly healthy and hardworking man. Some of the townsfolk suspected his ex-wife of foul play, but there was no evidence. Michelle was adopted and didn't know her step father very well, but she and her current family agreed to fill the barn with loving animals like horses, goats, rabbits, ducks, anything cute and cuddly they could think of. Setting them loose didn't seem all to harmful, except for maybe the rabbits who probably wouldn't come back. But hell, they breed like rabbits.
We were all confused as to Blake's sudden shift in attitude. "C'mon man, just tell her. It isn't like she doesn't already know." One of his gang buddies poked. "Shut it Chris." He barked. "I let all of your animals loose, okay?!" Blake snapped and threw the paper back into the hat. Lightning crashes behind us only about 50 ft away. We all jumped at the loud noise and the electricity coming towards us. Amidst the chaos and our panic, Michelle let out a scream. We all focused on her, and then turned our heads to where she was staring. There was the paper, burning. It wasn't a small flame, either. It was asif someone had poured gas on it. The ground around it had begun to set on fire in a small circular shape around the initial flame. The hat shook violently in midair and spewed papers all over the place, each one reading: "Confess". Each individual paper began to set on fire all around us. We jumped up in confusion and terror, not knowing what in the hell was going on. The weather suddenly turned to crap, the wind began to pick up and it suddenly got really, really fucking cold. "Tell her damn it!" Cody shouted, another one of Blake's pals.
Michelle was bawling at this point. She was curled up into the fetal position on the ground and was shaking back and forth, the wind rustling her long, black hair. She was a pitiful mess, but nothing could have prepared me for what she became when she heard what Blake had to "Confess".
