Subtle
It was several decades ago
Since he was last here
Even now he felt the same nervousness
And anxiety filled with latent fear
This was where she lived
He hadn’t seen her in a very long time
His palms were all sweaty
His throat slowly filled with bile
The town reminded him of her
Her subtle presence was everywhere
In the rustle of the autumn leaves
Even in the beguiling scent of the air
Now that he was to meet her
He was both edgy and elated
He approached her wooden gate and thought
To be together they’d always been fated
The door opened when he rang the bell
It was strangely silent outside
When he asked for her, he was told
It had been two days since she died
Not sure if it was the chill in the wind
Or the one inside his broken heart
Instead of her, he was shown her grave
Forever she had depart
He sat by her grave and wept
Tears of love, longing and pain
He had remained unwed all these years
For him there wouldn’t be another ever again

Old school travel
This is just another ordinary day
Where I’m glad to still be alive
Now that I’m headed back to you
To keep my hopes up I’ll strive
The journey has been long and tedious
Often helpless I have felt
I’m elated that soon I will be with you
Small feel the storms that I’ve dealt
Sore limbs and broken spirits
Frequently left me disheartened
Making me question if I wanted to turn back
Forcibly keeping my instincts sharpened
Although this voyage has brought me
Riches and fame beyond compare
It means nothing to me
Since to share it you aren’t there
Look to the sky, see the shinning stars
We are one beneath the raven sky
This difficult journey is almost done
Our chance to meet is nigh

Invisible
He sat looking longingly at her
From the corner of his eyes
He watched intently as she laughed
And smiled when she smiled
She shook her head and her long hair
Sooty black like the ebony night
She sat with her friends and talked
Unknown of being in his sights
Animatedly she moved her hands
Obviously excited to be there
Her pale blue dress clung to her as
She sat listening to others, of him unaware
He kept staring at her continually
Like he had since they were kids
He kept wanting to go speak to her
But always decided his time he’d bid
As she got up to leave she glanced around
Ignoring him completely
There is nothing worse in the world he thought
Than seemingly wearing a cloak of invisibility
He’d spent years trying to gather the courage as he
Watched her go through one relationship after another
Little did she realise he thought to himself
She would be incomplete until they found each other

The night is still young and maybe tonight
You’ll find your way back home
I await your arrival with bated breath
Heartbroken over being left all alone
People have gathered nearby
To celebrate, party and cheer
You unfortunately are no where to be found
The house without you seems deserted here
I watch the glow from the street lamps
Light up the raven night
I wait patiently with high hopes that you will
Be with me today before the morning light
I often wonder if I should question you
About your evening excursions everyday
I fear coming off as needy and clingy
Unsure of what exactly to say
Your evening strolls that extend late into the night
Have caused me to become bitter and forlorn
Does it ever occur to you that I might feel
Like a shoe discarded after being torn ?
Yet I calmly bid my time and hope
That today you come to your senses
The time in the hourglass is quickly running out
And I’m tired of keeping up pretences.

Raking through the dying embers

I forcibly push you out leaving
My mind and soul unfulfilled.
I feel sick with longing and confusion,
The space between us feels
Torturous to me.

Is so complex —

Petrichor
I won’t deny that it had been a while
Since the last time my deserted heart
Was blessed with some rain
Shattered and discarded in the past,
It had lain in a dormant state
Feeling neither love nor pain
In your patient loving hands
This deserted heart, with chartreuse
Rich and green once again became
Instead of arid winds, a rich petrichor
Arose from the now moist grounds -
The will to love again it gained
Gone are the days when I would
Sit crying , fogging up the glass
Of the window pane
Never do I ever want to go back to
Those parched lands where I thought
It would never rain again
