An image unmarred by reality
I may never see those twinkling eyes
That forever stole a part of me
Stuck like a tattoo, erasing all distance
A million miles and few feet to spare
Holding on against the flow
So perfect, all you can do is stare
Forces of nature, a pull too strong
Turn back the clock, sludge was snow
Muddy waters a cloud, a place I belong
A shooting star, flying little too low
Lighting the sky it leaves behind

Solstice Happiness
I've finally turned
A huge sweeping corner
In how I've handled
How I feel this year.
Instead of retreating in
I properly reached out
Sought company instead of avoiding it.
Spent time with good friends I have near.
Instead of consolation
There was pure delight and revelry.
Music and laughter
I sang with passion 'til my voice was raw!
We merried-away
Any hint of sadness I had.
I danced so much much I've woken
To find my legs are unbelievably sore!
At the height of the evening
A most wonderful thing happened
Amidst my silly dancing and singing
In the well-set-in rain.
Me being me, I'd been trying to see the stars
And he sky had finally cleared!
So I could at last gaze up at them again.
I called my dear best friend outside
I said it with urgency:
"Ohhhh you MUST at once
Come look at the sky!"
In the moment we did
Blazed a giant meteor!
The brightest either of us have ever seen!
The emotion I felt witnessing that
I simply cannot deny.
So symbolic (to me)
It felt like a message from the universe
Given it was the only moment all night
We'd stopped at all to pause.
I felt the Heavens resounding:
"Here's a gift you can't ignore.
Well done! You got through darkness
And reclaimed this day and night as yours!"
There was acknowledging
and outlletting my pain this year,
But I wasn't held hostage by it,
Or feel need to dwell on my grief.
I felt the most free that I have
On the day in an age.
To be able to do so
Brings me such relief!
Healing is a process in parts
It does take much time and many ways
To find what work for us; what's right.
I'm grateful to have built up my strength
And moved forward enough
To have truly enjoyed
What was once upon a time
A not enjoyable night.
So when this rolls around again
I'll prioritise revelry from now on.
Find reason to celebrate, to "go all out"
(Even in my own little silly, lame style!)
I choose remembering this night.
This revelry! This meteor!
I choose "Solstice Happiness!"
I choose love. I choose laughter.
I choose to smile.
