She woke up early,
vivacious excitement in her way,
father is going to come home today.
She waited for countless months,
making welcome cards for hundreds of time.
She waited for countless years,
to see that big old smile around the house.
Thousands of letters exchanged,still
numerous storied left untold,
today, she will say it all.
A nervousness in her gait,
contemplating on her very first words to him,
She doesn't know where her mother went,
perhaps, to collect his favourite sweets.
It's about time now,
With every passing time,
the palpable excitement running wild in her.
Her mother came, just in the nick of time
whispering something to her ear.
She stood there , unable to move,
for she has come to know,
He isn't going to come home, today and never.
Years pass by,
she doesn't cry anymore,for
she knows, the last thing father wanted,
is to make her cry.
She keeps a picture of him at bedside,
to kiss him goodnight, every night.
