Everyone is aware about the pain a woman bears every month during her periods. From insomnia, stomach pain, etc to emotional breakdowns. She goes through all. The period of her periods makes her disable to do routine tasks. And you expect her to do the office work along with all households ?She can't.She just can't.Statistics also says the same Estimates of the Endometriosis Society India suggest that over 25 million women suffer from endometriosis, a chronic condition in which period pain is so bad that women nearly pass out from it..
Her periods can't leave her.So, she's asking leaves for her periods. Many companies are offering option of menstrual leaves and/or work from home for their female employees. Then what are others waiting for?
Females are biologically different from males. That's why they are offered maternity leaves.Same way, they are asking for menstrual leaves. And this applies to all classes of woman. After a time we may see that corporates are providing the option of menstrual leave to employees. But what about low-class working women?Like construction, factory workers, maids, hawkers, etc. These are the women who are more in need of menstrual leaves. When will they get time for their health? When will they raise voice for their health? If they don't raise voice, will anyone ever understand their pain? So, let's start with ourselves.Ask your maid(Kamwali aunty as we call her) to take off during her periods. It's another long discussion whether menstrual leaves should be paid or un-paid. But for these women doing physical work for less than 100 rupees per day,one should offer them paid menstrual leaves. Because they NEED it.
