    She saw him
    as something breathtaking,
    stealing small glances
    to determine the differences
    between thoughts and perception.

    He saw her
    as something fragile,
    pulling apart pieces with
    careful precision to figure the likelihood
    of having to put them back together.

    Beneath crumpled sheets,
    they were shocked
    to find another person,
    staring back at them
    as if to rearrange clouded minds.

    They drifted apart
    like the shore and the sea
    only to beat back with
    the rolling of ocean swells
    caressing the sand.

    He saw her
    as someone gentle.
    She saw him
    as someone warm.
    But they sailed into the night.
