Sometimes you have to allow them to live their share of pain. You don't necessarily have to be the person who drags them out of the darkness. You don't have to be the right one miraculously changing everything. You should let them feel their pain. Let them know how bad it hurts. Don't stop them. The more they don't face it, the more they become the prisoners of it. And when they'd get tired of being brave enough to fight they'd understand that this battle wasn't worth a fight. They don't surrender, they learn to survive. Now the darkness doesn't stop them because they have found the light of hope now.
