Warm tears spill over her hands

    Forming rivers under her feet

    Levels rising

    Current gaining strength

Fast enough to pull her in

    Drag her along

    Clinging to her clothes

    Trapping her underneath

Her river is now a lake

Her lake is now an ocean

    Fears becoming alive

Create homes in the treacherous depths

The bottom is no longer visible

The horizon stretching farther and farther from her grasp

The beaches too sharp to climb

The rocks to slippery to hold

Waves trampling every hope of floating

    Body too tired to swim
