    I struggle
    Against the chains
That bind my heart and mind.

    It's an everyday struggle
    And each link that breaks
Makes the day independence day for me.

I can't do this or that
You see, girls don't do this...
    And I do
Getting a slap or a rowdy hooting
    Be it
I break one strand binding me....

    I struggle
    To be me
Outside the cutouts put there for me
    Daughter, sister, wife, mother
    I struggle
    To be a woman
    Who is a human first.

    I struggle
    To be free of boundaries
Free of walls defining you and me

Still a long way to go
    I move and chains tinkle
    World looks on
A pretty anklet on my feet.
