If its possible to share each and everything atleast with one member of the family likely, we can reduce the intensity of such attempts.
The professional psychologist uses "Cognitive behavioural therapy" which in layman language means "by talking and observing".
You dont need to be pro in talking and observing your own children.
Focus on the minute hidden behavioural changes.
For eg: rapid mood swings, excess/reduction sleeping or eating , social detachment etc.
Suicide is not a thing of sudden action. Anyone going through the cycle of ending his/her life must having some kind of plans in process.
If you are able to identify any of above symptoms,
First and foremost thing you need to do it:
Talk directly with the person.
Ask staright forward "Is any suicidal thoughts comming into your mind?"
(maybe if you didnt get the ans you'll get some hints)
ALSO ITS A MYTH, TALKING ABOUT SUICIDE WILL INCREASE THE WILL FOR SUICIDE.
make sure that when you asking this question your tone and pitch is normal.
If you unable to find a way to help the person, simply tell
"I'M ALL HERE TO LISTEN YOU, WHENEVER YOU WANT"
(this includes without judging, interupping and forcing)
The second important thing is:
"remove all the things which can be a medium for harming oneself."
Most people prefer method of suffocation other than cutting or guns.
MAKE SURE TO REMOVE BEDSHEETS, CURTAINS, STOOL,CUSIONS, or any other thing which might be used in tying.
(If possible also remove the locks from door)
Dont leave the person alone. Make sure anyone is with the person mostly in night and early morning.
