The North Star followed us home last night. Along the sultry curves of the country highway. Hugging the right corners that faded into darkness. The moon drifting in and out of the clouds like it was afraid to be seen. It was so bright though. A flame in the fear held within my heart. We flew to it, desperate for relief. Wildlife darted in front of us and then stood by as we passed. Their eyes, glowing embers in the shadows. Windows rolled down, we couldn't help but feel calmer. Inhaling the cool, clean air. Embraced sweetly by the quiet, we drove home holding a small speck of hope and love in our souls.
