    We wear midnight
    like a badge of honor
    a memorial to the scars
    that make us, us
    a reminder that when
    we bleed, we all
    bleed droplets of red.

    We anchor ourselves
to the blue of the sea
    lest we drown, leaving
    behind our fears at the
    edge of the harbour
    while we dream of
    lands that lie on the
    other side of the waves.

    We sit hand in hand
    on wintry evenings
    watching the city
    wrap itself in layers
    of the whitest snow
    while the cold quietly
    seeps into our bones
    and makes a home.

    We stand on the edge
    of a bridge, watching
    the black smoke billowing
    from the chimneys as far
    as the eyes can see
    while the plexiglass
    buildings hide behind
    their self made bubble.

    We are kind souls
    who are attracted to
    the inner evil; we are
    facades of grey who
    learned to distinguish
    sin from salvation, knew
    what lay on the other
    side of midnight, without
    really wanting to.
