The last time I went to the hospital,
There was nobody waiting at the desk
All that was waiting for me was a machine to check in with,
    No human interaction left

And I wondered what we would do without hospital receptionists
They tackle rage, fear and grief, their patience is the best of us

I wonder how I would have coped through times that I did
Without those receptionists offering distant comfort
Without the opportunity to openly grieve in front of eyes that would never judge

I can’t think of many places where a human connection is so needed
The home of both birth and death, relief and grieving
A connection that could never be replicated by a fucking machine
