Perseverance

Through the valley we walk
traveling together yet alone
with rivers of tears to swim
our sadness does atone
 
On hollowed hills we stumble
as perfumed breeze clouds the mind
pebbles of thunder under foot
while shadows that haunt lurk behind
 
Following lies we search for truth
ever-growing our hunger for nourishment
trapped within sheltered walls
the words of others thrust cold and abhorrent
 
Still the mountainous landscapes we do climb
with cuts and bruises and bludgeoned hearts
that prove what's beyond the polished masks
while the pursuit for love never so parts
