    Young poet

We’re halfway through my favorite musical
And honestly we’re both falling asleep because I’ve made us watch it countless times
Yet I still cry every time the courtesan realizes she cannot run away with the young poet
I blurt out that poets are so painfully beautiful
And how the magic they carry is just impossible
And how complicated things must be trying to turn your pain into something that will fill the belly of a stranger
You tell me that I carry this magic
    Just deep deep down
And how one day when it’s ready, my fire will be released
And the whole world will devour it and then ask for seconds
