Tripura is the third smallest state of India. There are many theories behind its name. Tripura may have been derived from Tipra, original inhabitant of the region. The name may have been derived from two Kokborok words “tui and “para” in which “tui” means water and “para” near. The name might have derived from the name of the deity Tripura Sundari at Udaipur. Another theory that suggest the etymology of the state came from the king whose name was Tripur and who ruled the region.
