    The First Day of Term

I feel it burning inside me
    Seething through my veins,
    Bubbling and boiling and swirling
    Right up to my brain.
I fist my fingers and tremble
And bite my lips to bleed
    A dam against the flow
    Of atrocities to be released.
    I take long deep breaths
To calm the storm to begin
To quell the want to burst
    Like Vesuvius on Pompeii.
So stiffening my body 'gainst the tide
I paste a smile to my face,
    And greet the monstrous munchkins,
    My personal Kindergarten Hell!
