    The Noose

She was living on borrowed time,
living each day like her last, and yet dragging
each day behind her as if an unwanted burden.

She was living on borrowed time,
carrying herself from one island to another and yet,
not really moving at all. As if the ship she sailed has stuck into a sticky quagmire instead of rippling water that had promised to take her away to the island of freedom
    and dreams.

She was living on borrowed time,
with the noose getting tight around her neck, a little more, with each passing minute, and yet, to an outsider, it looked like a beautiful necklace of sapphires and rubies, meticulously woven, wrapped around her constricting throat.

She was living on borrowed time,
dreading the day the executioner will finally pull the lever
and she'd dangle, with the whole world holding her breath and watching on, to see her get the rightful fruit of her crime.

She was living on borrowed time,
pretending to be someone she was not and could never be,
and yet, people cheered her on how perfectly she performed the role they'd thrust upon her to perform.

She was living on borrowed time,
just waiting, dreading that fateful day to come, when
she'll be shackled in heavy chains and will be made to accept them as though an honour bestowed upon
    her tired soul.

She was living on borrowed time,
when all she really wanted was to cut the string tied right around her throat, and to just run away like a wild being, who knows no norms and accepts no traditions!

She was living on borrowed time,
and now, she only wanted the clock to stop,
the wind to howl, the roses to bleed and
    the memories to just.... burn!
