(Oh god, how did I get so sappy and philospcal this early in the morning?)
"Amor vincit omnia"
"Love triumphs all"
Of course, you've heard it. But have you seen it?
Caravaggio's masterpiece of a playful cupid, prancing around, wings spread in glee, around the scattered remains of all human endeavours…
Love is beautiful.
But is it true?
Can love conquer all? Is love enough?
As humans, we are complex beings, pulsing masses of emotional conundrums. We are finical in our fantasies, and unforgiving in our expectations. Our minds are never faithful, even when we tame our bodies in to it. What we desired a day before, loses its allure once achieved.
So, yes, I can love you. But at the same time, I can hate you.
I can crave you, and be sickened by you, within the same second.
I wonder, is it the same for you? Or is it just me and my occasionally troubling idiosyncrasies?
We've all read a thousand novels, and watched a hundred films, where people laid their youth, dreams and sometimes their own lives, at the altar of love without a second thought.
After all, a thousand ships did sail for the love of one woman.
What did you expect, honey? There's a reason they call them "fiction".
It's a beautiful idea, though, to think that you can love me like that.
But the truth is, you only loved the idea of me.
And maybe, I could've changed myself to be your idea.
