The Sunflower

Amongst the sussorous hymn of swaying trees,
I watched a lone sunflower
Raise its leaves to the beckoning breeze.
A lissome stalk held a golden face,
Of a lone sunflower
Who bathed in the elixir of the sun's embrace.
As the sweet days of summer decayed
I watched a lone sunflower
Wither underneath the brooding shade.
Bound by the gloom of the fuligious haze,
I admire a lone sunflower
Still gazing upon the sun's dying rays.

Country

The sunlight flashed through the tall trees,
A burning orange behind closed lids.
The blackbirds played between the chimney stacks,
Upon the weathered tiles of little brick houses,
Stretching out in rows along pot-holed lanes.
The dry grass in the fields hissed in the breeze,
A honey buzzard perched on a rough wooden fence,
Silver pylons rose below blossoming skies.
Sunshine shimmered on a lonesome river,
Which wandered down muddy country roads,
Dotted with quiet puddles.

Watch.
The silent blinking of a billion stars.
Frosted pavements glistening like the stars above.
Moonlight dusted avenues illuminated by the chalky moon.
Listen.
The rustle of dry leaves picked up and set down by the drowsy breeze.
The sereneness of the sleeping streets, late at night, under the mystical glow of the pale moonlight.
Feel.
A crisp breath, clean-cut in the frozen air.
A cool, refreshing breeze caressing your skin.
The cold press of fingertips to snow, as white as the face of the silent moon.

An Autumn Morning

The sunlight surfed over the hazy clouds in waves,
The grass sweet with dew squeaked under my shoes,
Russet leaves were fluttering crisp in the breeze,
A robin warbled mellifluously in the candid jade tree,
And I pulled my coat tighter around me, cradling the mug of tea in my hands,
Watching the steam swirling into the clement sky,
Ebullient with the ardent dawn chorus.

Spring

Rosy skies hemmed with silver clouds gaze upon
Rolling wild lavender fields,
Their lithe stalks
Caressed by the tender breeze.
Bees buzz zealously between the lush flowers,
A chestnut deer saunters out of the forest,
Its hide speckled with white.
Sparrows chirp mellifluously in the ethereal spring air,
The viridian grass is scented with the morning dew.

On the dreary rooftop of a city garden
The sky, painted a dusky tangerine,
Drew over the sun a woeful curtain.

Here sat an old man on a wood deck chair
Who wondered when, and why,
We'd left nature in a state of disrepair.

He surveyed the jungle of concrete trees
Of which he called home
And told himself, it put him at ease

To hear the brassy honking of cars
Beneath the lurid lamplights,
Which hindered his view of the silent stars.

Decipheration:

So this poem is supposed to be about who a man has an epiphany about the destruction nature has witnessed while sitting on the rooftop garden of a city. He realises how artificial the city is and questions calling it is home due to its lack and poor imitation of nature. He attempts to make himself feel better by taking about aspects of the city that make him 'comfortable' but ends up contrasting them with nature's beauty.

Mulberry Wine

The evening spilled mulberry wine
Upon the clean canvas of the halcyon sky.
The saffron-gold sun hastened away
While the cotton tissue clouds soaked up the day.
When the evening yielded to the sinking sun,
The ravenous shadows of the stygian night
Swallowed the last of the mulberry wine.

Rainy Day

I used to hate the rain.
I hated the phantom of clouds who showed up to torment the sun
And how the rain spat furiously against my skin
Like I deserved it.
I hated how my wellies sloshed with its icy liquid
How the park became saturated with puddles,
And how the sky lost its luminol blue hue.
But the soil is enriched by the scent of petrichor
And the lime grass smells sweet and dewy.
Webs glisten admist the fields,
Flowers burst open into lush symphonies of colours,
And the dulcets of songbirds increase.
I used to hate the rain.
But now,
I love it.
