She stares at herself in the mirror, only to find it missing or more like stolen. Stolen, when she didn't have a voice to speak. Her pleasure was stolen.
Wodering what I'm talking about?? It is about a culture which is non-medical. "INFIBULATION"
What is Infibulation??
Infibulation is a practice of surgical closure of the labia majora (outer lips of the vulva) by sewing them together to partially seal the vagina, leaving only a small hole for the passage of urine and menstrual blood.
Infibulation also refers to placing a clasp through the foreskin in men. In ancient greece, male athletes, singers and other public performers used a clasp or string to close the foreskin and draw the penis over to one side.
Where is Infibulation practiced?
The practice can be found mainly in northeastern Africa, particularly in Dijbouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia and Sudan.
Why is Infibualtion practised?
Infibulation is believed by practitioners to render woman sexually inactive, and to assure a husband, he has married a virgin. Before the woman gets married, her husband's family makes sure she's still closed up. Then her husband or the woman in his family takes a small knife and cuts her open wide enough for sex. The vagina is opened further for childbirth and usually closed again afterwards, a process known as defibulation (or deinfibulation) and reinfibulation.
What are the causes of Infibulation??
Infibulation can cause chronic pain and infection, organ damage, prolonged micturition, urinary incontinence, inability to get pregnant, difficulty giving birth and fatal bleeding.
